MY NEWBORN MUST HAVES

Newborn must haves:

Having a newborn is completely overwhelming. I can tell you I was definitely not prepared for how hard it actually was, but here are some baby products that really helped when I had my baby newborn to three months.

Nappies
Yep, of course you need a lot of these. You can choose to use either cloth or disposable, I had both. My favourite brand is ‘Thank you .’ nappies. They never leaked and every box purchased, funds are given to charity.

Baby wipes-
Again my favourite are the ‘thank you.’ thick baby wipes. I tried huggies but they seemed to give my baby nappy rash, the thank you brand did not and they are nice and big. I also liked using ‘water wipes’ the first six weeks with baby as they were gentler on babies skin.

Change mat:
Now this might not be a must have for everyone as you could change your baby on your bed, on floor or where ever you feel comfortable, but I love using my change mat in my change dresser. I also couldn’t be without my nappy bin.

Feeding equipment-
Whether you chose to breast feed or bottle feed you baby there a few things you will need.

Nursing pillow; I liked my Mombo pillow, it really added support when breast feeding my baby.

Breast pads. For those days out when you don’t want leeks!

A breast pump; I choose Tommee Tippee.

Newborn Bottles, again I used Tommee Tippee to begin with but I also tried several different brands to get my baby to take a bottle. (See my blog on ‘getting baby to take a bottle’ for more info) in the end I used Pigeon bottles and these are the only brand he will take.

Bottle cleaner brush and wash; I use a nuby brush but any brush will do and I also like the Milton tablets.

Wash clothes/burp clothes-
You would be surprised about how many of these you go threw! I used a few including the target brand small wash clothes, as well as bubbablue and Aden and Anais larger burp cloths, but any brand you like will do.

Body suits
I loved using the bonds wondersuits, they were so easy to just zip up and made dressing baby and nappy changes to easy! So I suggest finding any type of zip up baby onesies rather then shirt and pants, it makes it so much easier!

Baby hygiene and first aid:
I’d suggest going to your local baby store and purchasing a little first aid kit and grooming kit. This my include saline solution and nose assessor, safety nail clippers, thermometer, hair brush, silicon gum brush etc.
All these things really come in handy when caring for you tiny baby. As well as your choice of baby wash and oil. I love using palmers and Sukin baby.

Baby bath or bath support:
My sink was too small to bath my baby so a found a small baby bath was great to use during the first few weeks, and once my baby was big enough and I felt comfortable enough I moved him into the big bath on a baby bath support. Both I purchased from Target.
I also got a couple of cute baby hooded towels.

Bassinet
It is recommended that your baby sleeps in the same room as you on a separate service, on there back for the first few months. I decided on a Moses bassinet basket and stand. It was perfect for my little newborn and fit great next to my bed.

Swaddles
Most babies love to be swaddled. It makes them feel more warm and secure but there are many different swaddles in the market so it’s good to test and see which one your baby feels most comfortable in. For example my baby didn’t like to be in the wrap swaddles as he liked to sleep with his arms up and just kept breaking out of them. So I went with the ‘love to dream’  arms up swaddle. They zip up and are super easy. I still loved my Aden and Anais muslin swaddles though, I would use them for pram blankets or burp clothes.

Lots and lots of Love:
Lastly lost of hugs and kisses from mummy and daddy!

Thank you very much for reading and good luck with your little one!
