MY BABIES NIGHT TIME ROUTINE

Forrest’s night time routine:
This is just a little blog explaining my babies night time routine. We do this same routine every evening at the same time to prepare Forrest for bed time. This is how we start.

Dinner-  5PM Forrest has his dinner Now he is on more solid foods (three ‘meals’ a day) and I try to ensure he gets the best nutrition from his solids. So he will have vegetable based purée and sometimes a little fruit or rice crackers as well. Along with his water in a silly cup.

Quiet play- after dinner we have some quiet play. So while mummy and daddy eat our dinner Forrest will play or his play mat with soft toys or his mirror or soft books, just low key toys. Then once we have finished mummy or daddy will read him a few books or take him outside to watch the sunset.

Bath- 6PM is bath time. Dad will run the bath and set up the oil defused in the room to create a relaxing environment. I bath my baby in warm water using a organic night time baby wash. We also brush his two little teeth and every couple of nights I will gentle wash his hair. We listening to relaxing spa music and play with little fishy bath toys. Forrest loves the bath and loves to splash.

Massage-  once he is all dry and fresh nappy is on I will give him a little baby massage. I will use either lavender baby oil or palmers baby lotion. This massage helps relax him.
We then brush his hair ( he is obsessed with his soft hair brush) and give him his probiotic.

Sleepers- I will then dress him in his sleepers onesies. I like the organic cotton range, bonds or Next brand. Then I put him in his sleep bag (grobag). These will keep him warm and snuggly.

Book-  we then read our bedtime story. This has to be my favourite part of the day, snuggling with my baby reading to him and he loves books! His favourites at the moment are ‘Winnie the Pooh buzz says bee’, ‘the griffalo’ and Peter rabbit.

Feed- 6:30PM Forrest will have his last breast feed for the night. He will become sleepy but I make sure he does not fall asleep while nursing. I then wind him and then he cuddles in my arms until he is very sleepy.

Bed- 7PM is bed time. I will put my baby into his cot and give him his ‘country road bunny’ to snuggle with.

Baby will then drift off to sleep 😴

*Notes on my babies sleep environment;
I will have his soft lullaby or white noise playing on his sounds machine.
I have also resented put a night light in his nursery and this seems to help a lot with his sleeping, especially if he wakes in the middle of the night he is not as scared to be alone in the dark room.

To reduce risk of SIDS my baby only sleeps on his back on a firm mattress. The room is a comfortable temperature, but if it is a little cold I will cover him in a slight cotton baby blanket, making sure it is firmly tucked into the cot and under his arms to avoid the chance he may kick the blanket over his head.
Also once my baby was seven months old I added a air mesh breathable cot bumper around the cot. I was told this was ok to have as the risks of SIDS are less after six months of age.
No pillows or toys are in the crib while he sleeps apart from his small bunny which was introduced at 4 months.
I do all these things to ensure a safe healthy sleep environment for my baby.

So that is Forrest current night time routine. What your babies routine and how do you get to bed ?

All the best

-Mummy R
