OUR TOP TEN BOOKS 12- 20 MONTHS

Our top ten favourite books 12-20 months

We have always loved books in our home. Even since Forrest was just three weeks old I started reading him a story every night and his love of book just grew and grew. Now that he is a walking toddler through out the day he will go to his book shelf and choose his own book he would like to read, sit on my lap, turn the page, point to the picture and say some of the words, its really cute.
In this post I will be sharing our top ten favourite books we enjoy reading day in and day out. These books seemed to have appealed to my son more at the 12- 20 months old age but of course they can be read at any age. Enjoy!

Were going on a bear hunt –
This book is number one for Forrest at the moment, we probably read it three times a day (I also remember reading it as a child). This classic book tells the tale of a family who is going on a bear hunt and they are going to catch big one! They head into some trouble along their journey but they overcome it all until they reach the bear only soon to retreat but home safe and sound.
Forrest loves the way I read this book in a ‘sing-song’ sort of tone and he dances on my lap as I read it. He also gets very excited when we get to the page with the bear and he can shout big bear! Id defiantly recommend this book to everyone.

Mr McGee –
Mr McGee lived under a tree, one morning he got up and said its time I got out of bed.
In this book we join McGee on his adventure. My toddler loves all the rhymes and one of our favourite pages shows how Mr McGee gets dressed for the day. This is great for us as I can explain how we get dressed and use the pictures to encourage Forrest to dress himself and learn the important life skill. This is such a fun book to read with very nice illustrations

The Very Hungry Caterpillar –
Another classic book, this story follows along a hungry caterpillar in his journey and transformation of becoming butterfly. Also a book I remember enjoying as a child, I seldom met child who doesn’t enjoy it. It defiantly a keeper.

The Gruffalo –
“A mouse took a stroll through the deep dark wood, a fox saw the mouse, and the mouse looked good.” This vey popular children’s book is about a very small mouse who takes a walk through the forest and with his cleverness he avoids being eaten by the things bigger then him, even the Gruffalo! Forrest always reaches for his book, he likes to make the sounds of the animals like the ‘hisss’ of the snack and the ‘hoot’ of the owl. Its such a fun read.

The book of nursery rhymes-
This book is vey simple but contains some of my toddler’s favourite nursery rhymes such as twinkly twinkly little star and the incy wincy spider. We generally read this book before is bed time to creature that calm environment.

Each Peach Pear Plum –
“I spy tom thumb”
This beautiful board book is filled with rhymes and very fun illustration where you can your child can play eye spy to find the character on each page. This book has actually been in our collection since six months of age and Forrest is still enjoying it now.

Ten little fingers, ten little toes
This is another board book which has been in our collection for while and still gets a lot of reads. My toddler loves to find the babies little fingers and little toes in the illustrations and then point to his own fingers and toes. He also loves shouting baby! Baby!
This book is truly divine.

The Ginger Bread Man –
“Run, Run as fast as you can, you can catch me I’m the gingerbread man!”
A very classic tale, this little book follows the ginger bread man who runs away for his maker. I think Forrest loves this book so much because he loves to eat ginger bread biscuits and he familiarises the picture with his snack! He also likes the farm animals in this story and he makes their sounds ‘clip, clop’ ‘moo’ you know the drill. J

The Rainbow Fish –

This is a new book in our collection but Forrest has been grabbing it everyday since it got delivered. This beautiful book features a rainbow fish with shiny silver scales. He really enjoys the pictures and he more so points to the pictures as I say what he pointing to rather read the whole book as this is a longer story for a long toddler but this book will last a long time.

Winnie the Pooh, Buzz Says The Bee!
This book was a baby shower gift from my brother and it is much loved, 20 months in and we still read it regularly. In this book, you have to guess what sound Pooh and all of his friends make in the Hundred Acre Wood and each page has a flap you lift to revel the sound. My toddler can now already guess what sounds they are plus loves to knock on piglet’s front door or do pitter patter rain drops. It’s a beautiful one
