Halloween activities for toddlers

Halloween  activities for toddlers

We love Halloween season in our home. From the smell of pumpkin spiced candles to dressing up in costumes, Halloween is always one of our favourite time’s of year!
So listed below are some of our go to fun Halloween activities!

Pumpkin painting.
This is such a great craft activity! All you need is half cut apple or potato, orange non toxic paint , paper and a black marker.
Just allow your toddler to dip the flat part of the apple into the paint and stamp it on the paper to create a pumpkin type shape, then once the paint has dried mumma can trace around the pumpkin shape and add a spooky  jack o lantern face ! Then display your artworks!

Spider hand painting.
With this activity you will need black paint, paper, a sharpie and your child’s hands! Firstly draw a spider web onto your paper. Then let your child push their hands in the paint and then help them stamp their hands into the paper opposite each other so it makes a spider shape. Then once dried mummy can draw the face on the spooky spider!

Halloween book.
My toddler loves to read so it was a great idea for us to find some Halloween children books!
Some of our favourites are;
  • Room on the broom
  • Where Mrs Witch
  • Spots spooky fun
  • Nancy’s costume
  • Spooky pookie

Monster match.
All you need for this activity is some spooky cut outs. You can either print them or find them in the dollar store. Ours included multiple pumpkins, monsters, spiders and ghosts. Ask your toddler if they can match up the correct spooky picture!

Playing dress up.
Playing dress up is always fun and can be so simple. You can buy Halloween costumes or just find some old hats, scarfs ect. for your toddler to dress up in. My toddler enjoyed just putting a white sheet over his head and pretending he was a ghost! BOO!

Bat bath.
This was a fun way to do my toddlers bath on Halloween night. Just add a kids purple colour bath tablet to the water then add in your plastic toy bats! My son absolutely loved this and was a fun and spooky way to end the day. You can also do this as an outdoor water play activity if you have a water table!

Trick or treating.
This year we took our two year old trick or treating for the first time and he loved it!
My advice would be go early (5pm) and only do around the block as this would be enough for a small toddler :).

Singing Halloween songs and rhymes.
There are loads of different variations of Halloween songs and nursery rhymes you can sing with your child. Pinterest is great of lyrics! My son’s favourite is ‘five little pumpkins’ .

Pumpkin carving.
With older children pumpkin craving can be loads of fun! With adult supervision of course.

So those are just some of the fun activities that can be done with your toddler over the Halloween season! Hope you try some out yourself!

Happy Halloween!
