Toddler and Mummy morning routine (SAHM)

Toddler and Mummy morning routine (SAHM)

I believe a morning routine is very important thing to have. Whether your a stay at home parent or a working parent, the reliability of a routine will really help to get your morning started. Below I share our current morning routine for a stay at home mum and my 28 month old toddler.

6am- Forrest will get up and then wake up mummy and daddy and puppy and we will have morning cuddles.

6:10am - Forrest will the use potty, then brush his teeth , wash his face and brush his hair.  (Using a child sized step stool at the sink)
Forrest had become very confident in his morning hygiene routine and will pretty much to all these things with only a little assistants from me.

6:20am- Forrest and I will make the beds and open the windows.
Forrest will also help with pet care by helping me put fresh water and dry food down for our pup.

6:30am- we will say goodbye to daddy as he leaves for work. I will then make Forrest’s milk supplement drink and my coffee. We then Play in the play room enjoy the sun coming in. At this time I will always make sure I am Filling up my toddlers ‘emotional bucket.’ This means I’m showing him lots of love and cuddles, having morning chats, playing and just really showing him my unconditional love. This is a really important factor to starting our day right and setting us both in a good mood.

7:00am- we will make breakfast together. My toddler will stand in his Kitchen Learning tower and he will help me with tasks like cutting soft fruit and putting in his bowel or help make oats. I then will put on Lo fi beats on my google home and turn on ‘Harmony’ mix essential oils in the defuser. I love how this just sets the day to a relaxing start.

7:15am- we will sit down for breakfast together at the dinning table.

After breakfast Forrest will wither watch ABC kids, play with some toys or just sook at mummy while mummy has a quick shower and  does seven minutes make up routine 🙃

8:00am- we get dressed for the day. Forrest picks out his own clothes from his low Montessori clothes rack. I assistant by ensuring the clothes are suitable for the weather outside and I will help him dress himself.
Then I will generally try to match Forrest’s outfit by colour. For example, If he picks a blue shirt I will wear a blue dress. it’s something cute I enjoy doing.

8:15am- at this time we spend some time learning through play. Providing Montessori inspired educational materials or open ended toys, we will either play together or I will observe Forrest partaking in individual play. We may practice our abc cards or play kitchen or even play dough. I let Forrest lead the play.

8:45am- around this time we will leave the house to head to our daily activities. Whether it be swimming lesson day or library day or a trip to the museum. We will put in our sunscreen, hat and shoes and head out the door.
Notes* Forrest will also help me lock up the house and pack his bag for the day water bottle snacks what ever he will need.

But if we are staying in for the day this is the time I would set up a craft activity for Forrest. He loves doing painting, glueing, threading, you name it! so we alway have fun with a variety of arts and crafts.

So that in general is our daily morning routine. It my variety slightly depending on the time we need to leave the house but it’s pretty consistent every morning. I feel a predictable routine is so beneficial to children as they learn what to expect and are much happier and willing to do these tasks and enjoy them.

What does your morning routine look like?

Thanks for reading!
