MONTESSORI INSPIRED TOYS WE LOVE
Montessori inspired toys we love
In our home I love to use mostly Montessori inspired materials for my son and that includes toys. I try to be quite selective when it comes to toy selection for my son. I like the toys I provide to be interesting , beautiful, constructive, educational and I also want them to last a long time and get a lot of use- Montessori toys are perfect for this.
What is a Montessori Toy? A Montessori toy is one that stimulates learning by encouraging kids to experiment. They are usually made out of natural materials like wood and are higher in quality. Montessori toys are generally simple and based in reality.
Below is a list of just some of the Montessori toys my son loves.
Wooden rainbow stacker- this has been such a versatile toy. I purchased this for my sons first birthday and he still uses it today. He loves to stack them but also use them to make hills for his animals or ramps for his cars.
Balance board- Forrest loves his balance board. It can be used for of course balancing but also for his cars or a bridge, there are a lot of different options.
Broom- any child sized cleaning equipment are perfect for little ones. My son has a small broom which he likes to help me clean with but also uses it to ride on, like a wizard. He also has his own mop, dust pan, spray bottle, rags. He loves to help.
Animal figurines- any real life looking animal toys are so nice for kids. These toys enables children to start to recognise different species and they can be used in all sorts of play and activities.
Art Easel- Arts and crafts are a big part of our play so we get so much use out of our wooden art easel. The one I purchased has a chalkboard on one side and a pain stand on the other. :)
Wooden train set- we own a large train track set which Forrest seems to like to play with individuality. He seems to feel accomplished when he is able to put the track together himself. It’s such a great simple toy.
Wooden peg dolls- I think peg dolls are so cute and again they can be used in all types of play situations. You can even DIY your own.
Puzzles - puzzles are fantastic for young children. We started Forrest with the larger wooden peg puzzles and then moved on to the three piece puzzles. Eventually he will be able to do the more advanced puzzles.
Blocks- we have so many blocks. Small wooden blocks, large blocks, coloured blocks and my son loves all them them.
Books- book are so beneficial for children. I started reading to my son when he was a newborn. Montessori style books include ones the are based in reality. So stories about real life things and real life pictures are great. (No talking cars or flying giraffes haha)
Musical instruments - music and movement are such a big part of Montessori so its only natural we own a few different musical instruments. Percussion instruments are my sons favourite.
Gardening set- getting children outside in the garden is so much fun so a little gardening set to help plant or just play around in the dirt is always good. Montessori practical life lesson are so beneficial and this is one of them.
Nesting dolls - my son loves his wooden nesting dolls. They are simple, beautiful to look at plus they promote problem solving and fine motor skills.
Wooden shape sorter - this is a great toy to start learning shapes. I started with three shapes when my son was younger and then added. He can now sort all 16 shapes on his own.
Montessori letter cards - these textured letter cards are great. They allow your child to not only see but feel the letters.
Learning tower- so this isn’t a toy but Forrest’s learning tower had been amazing to have. It allows him to interact with me in the kitchen and help with Preparing and cooking meals. He favourite is to bake or make smoothies.
So these are just some of the Montessori inspired toys that we love in our home. Most of these toys are available on Amazon or educating kids online.
Keep playing
