No cost activities children will love

No cost activities children will love

Children love to get out and explore, play and learn, and it doesn’t have to cost you a lot to do so.

There are so many available groups and resources we can utilise for our children that are at little or no cost. And to be honest for my son and myself being quite privileged, it’s important to teach my son to be humble and grateful for the things we can be part of it our community.

Nature walks- this is our number one go to activity. There are so many beautiful spots you can find while exploring in the outdoors. Your child can discover new things like plant and insect species. They can be immersed in different natural textures like water, mud, sand, grass, crunchy leaves.

To take your nature walks to the next level you can take along an activity like a scavenger nature hunt list or we like to create our own treasure map and treasure chest to hide. We really enjoy our nature walks and I urge you to get outside if you can x

Parks- public parks are such a great way to allow your children to play, imagine, use gross motor skills and make new friends. My son as well as myself are always connecting with new people we meet at the playground. I always encourage my son to have courage and be kind.

Collect nature for craft - at home craft is always a winner for us and what better way to make it cost free then to use any nature you have collected to create a beautiful craft piece.

We may create a collage using leaves, sticks and flowers or paint rocks we have found. There any plenty of ways you can use your nature and make it beautiful.

Local Library- My son and myself are frequent visitors of our public library. Reading is such a great early foundation to learning language and communication, so being able borrow and rotate books with your library membership amazing. Always allowing your child to be independent in their choice of books, showing them how to use their library card, and modelling to them how to be responsible for returning the books. Though this children will really come to appreciate the value of books, knowing how to read and care for them.

Plus you can spend as much time in the library as you want. Grab a coffee while getting cozy reading or using their computers or browsing the DVD and CD sections they also have available. Also remember to grab a novel for yourself 🙏🏻.

Public craft and play- another community activity your children can be apart of is local craft and play sessions. These sessions are generally cater by the Library and provide things like messy play, craft activities or story time. This is another great way to allow you child to be involved with other kids in their community and have fun.

Pools and Water parks- if the weather is fine it’s great to utilise public pools or water parks. Remembering to always be respectful to others and use sun safety and supervise water safety ✌️

Street library- as mentioned above, reading is fantastic and you may be lucky to have a street library close to your home. A street Library is a small book box that is located in public parks. Ours is run by our neighbour and it works just as a library would- borrowing books from the box and returning them when you are done. Always respecting the literature.

Play groups- children’s play group are so good to be apart of. They allow you child to play with new toys, games, materials and meet now friends. I have met so many beautiful parents though play groups and it’s a great way to model socialisation and conversation to children. Some play groups even provide morning tea for the children. Go check them out.

Toy library- your area might even have their own toy library. These are great as you pay one yearly fee to borrow as many toys as you would like through out the years. Always keeping toys fresh and rotated while reducing clutter on your home by bought toy build up.

Another tips for low cost materials is check out an op shop. Reduce waist by purchasing pre loves puzzles, dolls, instruments etc.

Museum- Grab a museum membership and visit your local museum. Museum are so interesting and knowledgeable for children. Many include interactive activities and programs which children can immerse themselves in. Children love to learn new things though exploration and experiences.

So there is just a few of our favourite no cost activities we like to be apart of and there are so many more you can find like free fairs, live music events, farms etc.

It’s can be so easy to get caught up in placing your child in payed constant groups like sports clubs, classes or a lot of arcades, cinema, indoors, toy shops, materialistic purchases, and these are fine but I urge you to look further and be apart of your inclusive community. Try to focus funds on wholesome foods, education and passion.

Stay mellow, get outside, keep exploring and stay safe x
